A postdoctoral position is available to explore mechanisms of receptor tyrosine kinase actions and novel therapeutic strategies aggressive cancers and inflammatory conditions. The research project is supported by a Research Ireland-funded Frontiers for the Future Award programme.

We are seeking highly motivated candidates with a PhD and demonstrated research achievement, who will contribute to this research programme and will also be supported to prepare for careers in academia or Industry. The successful candidate will join a dynamic team of international researchers in Cork, and will also interact with collaborators in the USA, Europe and Japan. The research will deploy innovative approaches including “in cell” proteomics and imaging, CRISPR-generated cell and mouse models, protein structure-function analyses and modelling along with a range of cell function approaches.

The School of Biochemistry and Cell Biology provides a supportive research environment and University College Cork offers a suite of career development initiatives through the postdoc hub and the human resources unit.

Achievement of the expected progression within Post Doc and Senior Post Doc is transferable between the Irish HEI’s. This can be reflected in the starting pay of a PD researcher. Similarly, as the PD scheme is an intergenerational training scheme completion of PD1 or PD 2 levels in one HEI will normally render that researcher ineligible for appointment at a similar level in another Irish HEIResearcher Career Development Framework | Irish Universities Association

Project Title: Exploiting the spatial actions of metabolic and survival factors for therapeutic benefit

Skills / Qualifications

ㆍTo conduct a specified programme of research under the supervision and direction of a Principal Investigator/Project Leader.

ㆍTo engage in appropriate training and professional development opportunities as required by the Principal Investigator, School or College in order to develop research skills and competencies.

ㆍTo gain experience in grant writing.

ㆍTo engage in the dissemination of the results of the research in which they are engaged, as directed by, with the support of and under the supervision of a Principal Investigator.

ㆍTo become familiar with the publication process.

ㆍTo acquire generic and transferable skills (including project management, business skills and postgraduate mentoring/supervision).

ㆍTo engage in the wider research and scholarly activities of the research group, School or College.

ㆍTo interact closely with postgraduate research students who are studying for a Masters or a PhD and possibly have an agreed role in supporting these students in their day-to-day research in conjunction with an academic supervisor.

ㆍTo carry out administrative work to support the programme of research.

ㆍTo carry out additional duties as may reasonably be required within the general scope and level of the post.

ㆍTo contribute to costing research grant proposals and assist in the financial management of a research project.
