Postdoctoral Research Fellow position
At the Faculty of Medicine, Department of Clinical Medicine, a full-time (100 %) position as postdoctoral research fellow is available for a period of three (3) years. The position is part of the K.G. Jebsen Center for Parkinson’s disease and is externally financed. This position will be part of the DECODE-PD research group (led by Prof. Charalampos Tzoulis) in collaboration with the Cell Fate Lab (led by Prof. Simona Chera).
About the project/work tasks
- The postdoctoral fellow will be part of a dynamic research environment focusing on the early mechanisms of neurodegeneration in Parkinson’s disease.
- The main tasks involve working with mouse models of Parkinson’s disease.
- Key techniques include motor/behavioral tests of mice, in vivo compound administration, postmortem tissue harvesting and processing with a focus on the nervous system, cell tracing, immunohistochemistry, mouse colony administration, genotyping, confocal and large scale microscopy, molecular biology techniques (RNA preparation, single cell RNAseq library prep), large scale data analysis.
- The candidate will contribute to the design and execution of experiments, data analysis, and dissemination of results in peer-reviewed journals and conferences.
- Collaboration with national and international partners is expected.
- Short stages abroad for technical skills improvement are expected.
Qualifications and personal qualities
- The applicant must hold a Norwegian PhD or an equivalent degree within biomedical/molecular biology sciences, neurobiology or a related field, or have the doctoral thesis submitted prior to the application deadline. It is a condition of employment that the PhD has been awarded at the latest within 5 months after the closing date for applications.
- Documented experience in hands-on working with mouse models is required.
- It is an advantage to have experience with neurodegeneration research.
- Experience with imaging techniques and/or behavioral testing in rodents is advantageous.
- It is an advantage to have expertise in genetic cell tracing techniques.
- Experience in managing mouse colonies with multiple transgenic setups and genotyping is advantageous
- Must work independently and in a structured manner, and have the ability to cooperate with others.
- Must have proficiency in both written and oral English.
Special requirements for the position:
- FELASA certification (or Norwegian approved international equivalents) for work with laboratory animals.
The applicant’s personal suitability for the position is a significant factor in the evaluation.
About the position of postdoctoral research fellow
The position of postdoctoral research fellow is a fixed-term appointment with the primary objective of qualifying the appointee for work in top academic positions. You cannot be employed as a postdoctoral fellow for more than one fixed term period at the same institution.
The employee may be assigned required duties in the form of teaching and similar work at the department.
