Call open for applications for a Post-Doctoral Research Grant, within the framework of project with the reference PRR-C05-i03-I-000134-Phenobot, financed by Recovery and Resilience Plan, under the following conditions:

Scientific Area: Agrarian Sciences

Admission requirements:

• To have a PhD in Agricultural Sciences, Biology, Biochemistry, Bioengineering, Bioinformatics, and other related fields obtained in the three years prior to the scholarship application submission date;
• The place of development of the research work to obtain the degree of Doctor complies with the provisions of Regulation no. 950/2019 of 16 December, article 7, paragraph 3, point b), no. 4 and no. 5

Hiring Requirements: If the qualification has been granted by a foreign higher education institution, it will have to be recognized by a Portuguese higher education institution, pursuant to article 25 of Decree-Law No. 66/2018, of 16 August, which approves the regime legal recognition of academic degrees and diplomas in Higher Education, arising from foreign higher education institutions, and paragraph e) of paragraph 2 of article 4 of Decree-Law No. 60/2018, of August 3, all of which the formalities must be fulfilled there until the contracting act.

This contract is conditional on the extension of the project being granted by the funding entity.

Activity Outline: Participate in the development and execution of the research project by carrying out the associated scientific and technical activities: Review the state of the art, develop benchmarks, and create proof of concept for advanced precision agriculture models based on the integration, multi-omics, and systems biology (SB). Characterize the physiological, metabolic, and transcriptional diagnostics of grapevines in greenhouse/field conditions in response to abiotic stress to validate field spectral data. Develop an SB approach to characterize grapevine metabolic pathways and infer its phenotype/physiological state. Develop a platform (digital twin) capable of incorporating field data and laboratory data to support advanced precision agriculture models. Participate in laboratory/field activities conducted within the scope of the project. Test and validate the designed solutions in real-world contexts using modeling techniques and publish the results. Additionally, the researcher is expected to: Co-supervise/supervise PhD and MSc students. Develop and write scientific articles (Q1 percentile). Actively contribute to competitive project proposals aligned with the research line.

Legislation and regulations: Law no. 40/2014, updated by Decree-Law no. 123/2019, of 28 August (Statute of Scientific Research Grant Holder); Regulation no. 950/2019 of 16 December (Regulation of Research Grants of the Foundation for Science and Technology); Regulation no. 184/2021, of 3 March (Regulation of Research Grants of the University of Porto) and Decree-Law no. 66/2018 of 16 August (Legal Regime of Recognition of academic degrees and diplomas of Higher Education awarded by Foreign Higher Education Institutions).

Work place: The work will be developed in the Department of Geosciences, Environment and Spatial Plannings , Faculty of Sciences of the University of Porto (FCUP), under the guidance of Mário Manuel de Miranda Furtado Campos Cunha

Grant duration: Initial duration of 5 months, with beginning on 15 July 2025, eventually renewable up, but not exceeding the end date of the project.

In accordance with the provisions of Article 7, nº7, once this BIPD (Post-Doctoral Research Scholarship) contract has expired, the grant holder cannot sign a new scholarship contract with FCUP.

Maintenance allowance amount: The grant stipend amounts to 1851€ according to the table of values of the grants awarded directly by FCT, I.P. in the Country (https://www.fct.pt/apoios/bolsas/valores).The payment will be made by bank transfer.

Voluntary Social Insurance: As long as the scholarship is for a duration of 6 months or more, and in compliance with the provisions of article 10 of Law 40/2004, the grantee shall be entitled to the assumption by FCUP of the charges resulting from contributions levied on the first of the echelons referred to in article 36 of Decree-Law no. 40/89, of 1 February, with the addition of charges arising from the option for a higher tax base being incurred on its own.

Personal Accident Insurance: In addition to these allowances, the grantee will be covered by personal accident insurance.

Selection procedure: The selection methods to be used are as follows:

A) Curriculum Analysis (AC), weighting 90%;
B) Motivation Letter in English (CMI), weighting 10%;

Curriculum Analysis and Motivation Letter (up to 20 points, 90% weighting):
The following parameters will be evaluated:

Relevance of the defended PhD thesis topic, such as such as systems biology, plant physiology, crop ecophysiology, among others.

Knowledge and proven experience in multiomics techniques, molecular biology and systems biology.

Knowledge in Bioinformatics techniques ('genome-scale models,' 'flux balance analysis,' pyCobra, MEWpy, database research).

Knowledge of modeling.

Skills in organizing, implementing, and leading research work.

Authorship of scientific publications, particularly articles in indexed journals, formal technology transfer activities, and evidence of protection, management, and valorization of Intellectual Property.

Maturity in structuring and writing texts.

Clarity, consistency, and depth in communication. Broad understanding of the research process and the project topic.

Proficiency in English and Portuguese.

The final classification (CF) will be obtained using the following formula:
CF = AC = A * 90% + B * 10%

Second Phase:
After ranking candidates based on the curriculum evaluation, an interview (up to 20 points, 10% weighting) will be conducted with the top two candidates.

The final classification will then be calculated as:
CF = AC * 90% + E * 10%

The candidate who has a foreign academic degree or diploma whose final classification is expressed on a different classification scale from the Portuguese one or does not have a classification, for evaluation purposes, must present a document proving the recognition of the foreign degree or diploma and the conversion of the classification for the Portuguese classification scale until the closing date of applications for the competition. If the documents attesting the degree submitted by the candidates do not present the final classification of the degree required in this notice with the respective grade converted to the Portuguese classification scale, the jury will consider, for evaluation purposes, that the candidate has the minimum classification (10 points) of a maximum of 20 points) required to obtain a degree in Portugal.

Candidates whose application has been assessed with a final classification less than 13 points are not eligible to sign the contract of the fellowship.

Advertisement of final decision: The final results of the evaluation will be published through a list ordered by final classification, sent to candidates by email. It is further informed that, pursuant to the provisions of articles 121 et seq. of the Code of Administrative Procedure, it has a legal period of 10 working days from the day immediately following the notification, to make a decision, if it so wishes.

A complaint may be filed against this decision within 15 working days or, alternatively, an appeal may be filed within 30 working days, addressed to the Director of the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Porto, pursuant to article 191 et seq. of the Code of Administrative Procedure.

The host entity may use the final ranking list to replace the selected grantee in case he/she gives up the position, up to one year.
