Project tasks :

The opening of this post-doctorate is part of the ERASME strategic program (PIA4, “ExcellencES”). It is a response to societal, environmental and/or academic challenges.

The post-doctoral fellow in engineering sciences will be tasked with developing new materials containing phase-change materials for urban thermal regulation: combating urban heat islands and ice formation.

More specifically, the application is a continuation of the ANR CONVINCES project, which focuses on the use of phase-change materials for thermal energy storage in construction. This ANR project began in October 2021, and a thesis was funded in it for CERTES, in which the possibility of making polymer matrix and cement-based composites in which microencapsulated or unencapsulated parafin can be added was demonstrated. The work planned for the post-doctoral fellow will enable the current studies to be completed, in particular by investigating heat transfer in these composites and studying their ageing.

In addition, the results will be used to test the effectiveness of the materials obtained by applying them in real-life conditions on a UPEC site (Créteil or Sénart). This work will give rise to publications and participation in conferences, and may lead to other projects and links with ANR partners (CEREMA, IFSTTAR, Université de Nancy, iCube) or industrial partners. The post-doc will be supervised by Magali FOIS, materials physics specialist at CERTES.

Activities :

The post-doctoral researcher will focus on carrying out the proposed research project, which includes:

- production of composite samples based on building materials or resins containing paraffin microcapsules and possibly conductive fillers, testing and optimization of different shapes and formulations

- study the mechanical properties of composites using techniques adapted to the type of matrix (concrete or resin)

- study the thermophysical properties of components and composites (Hot-disk, DICO, etc.) and heat transfer in walls (guarded hot box, infrared thermography)

- use of thermal analysis techniques (DSC, ATG, DMA, dielectric analysis)

- study of particle size distribution and composite porosity using standard techniques

- observations by optical and electron microscopy

- study of material ageing

- characterization by infrared spectroscopy

- scientific publications and participation in conferences

- participation in laboratory activities and project follow-up meetings (CERTES, ANR CONVINCES project).

In addition, the results will be used to test the effectiveness of the materials obtained by applying them under real conditions on a UPEC site (Créteil or Sénart).

Work Environment :

The candidate will be based at the CERTES laboratory (Centre d'Études et de Recherches en Thermique, Énergétique et Système). CERTES is a university research laboratory of the University of Paris-Est-Créteil (UPEC), hosting researchers, PhDs, post-docs, PhD students and ITAs in a human-sized organization that enables a sustained, varied and fruitful research dynamic. The unit is building research around three themes:

- "Optimization of Thermal Properties of Materials and Inspection of Structures by Thermography" (OPTIMISTHE)

- Optimization of Sustainable Energy Systems" (OSED)

- ‘'Qualité de l'Air Intérieur - Sources et Transferts des Aérocontaminants’' (QAI-STA)

The project is part of the OPTIMISTHE team. The project will benefit from a budget resulting from the end of the ANR project, as well as from all the results already obtained within the framework of this project. Some results may give rise to patents, while others will have to be published.

- The candidate will benefit from the skills and support of the researchers involved in this project, as well as from the network to further his/her academic skills and career.

- He/she will also benefit from funding for research dissemination.

- Weekly operational meetings to monitor the project, followed by meeting reports, are planned. Review meetings will be held every 2 to 3 months, with an oral presentation.

Support in terms of career development (training, publications, scientific days, collaborations with companies, responses to calls for projects such as ANR, ADEME, europe, etc.).
