Satellites, spacecraft, and devices operating at very high altitudes use electronic components and systems that must be reliable and function over lifespans that can extend beyond a decade. The space radiation environment is one of the main sources of degradation of these electronic systems. To assess the sensitivity and radiation tolerance of electronic components—and thus ensure the reliability of missions—it is necessary to carry out ground-based tests using infrastructures capable of emulating the space environment.


The Laboratory of Corpuscular Physics of Caen (LPC Caen) has recently become involved in the “Normandie Accelerator” project, which aims to offer a set of irradiation platforms for radiation tolerance testing of embedded electronic systems. This project will use heavy ion beams provided by the GANIL (Caen) accelerators, as well as the electron beam supplied by the ATRON company (Cherbourg). Within this project, LPC Caen is responsible for developing a web platform to facilitate irradiation planning. The researcher will work in this context in collaboration with colleagues from LPC Caen, GANIL, and industrial partners, in order to meet the project's requirements.


The candidate will be responsible for developing and validating the physics engine that performs energy loss calculations, as well as integrating it into the web platform. He/She will join the DTN (Nuclear Dynamics and Thermodynamics) team and coordinate technical developments in collaboration with the laboratory's various departments, GANIL teams, and industrial partners. The candidate must have strong expertise in the field of interactions between charged particles and different materials. Knowledge of Monte Carlo simulation techniques is a plus.
