About IRCM

In barely 20 years, the Institut de Recherche en Cancérologie de Montpellier (IRCM) has succeeded in raising its research to the highest international level in the field of fundamental and applied cancer research, carried out in close collaboration with the clinical departments of the Montpellier Cancer Center (ICM: l'Institut du Cancer de Montpellier), and industrial partners. Under the joint supervision of Inserm, the ICM and the University of Montpellier, the IRCM brings together more than 280 people, researchers, clinicians, technicians and students, organized in 19 research teams that rely on high-performance technical platforms and competent support services. In an extremely competitive and rapidly evolving field of research, our greatest challenge is to stay one step ahead.

Hosting research group description

Alexandre Djiane lab studies cellular interactions at short range (stress response & cell competition) and long range (inter-organ exchange & cachexia) during tumor development.

Interactions between cells ensure harmonious growth and optimal functioning of tissues and organs. Cancer cells invariably adapt and escape these strict regulations in order to proliferate and invade surrounding or distant tissues. Using complementary experimental approaches and models, the « Epithelial Growth and Cancer » team aims to understand how short- and long-range signaling is integrated into epithelial cells and how their disruption contributes to tumor development. More specifically, we study:

• The role of the tumor-suppressive Hippo signaling pathway and how it is regulated
• Cell competition and its influence on tissue and tumor composition
• Interactions between the tumor and the organism, particularly during cachexia.

The prospective Post-doctoral fellow will overview and implement research projects on the topic of cacncer-associated cachexia as member of the « Epithelial growth and Cancer team headed by Dr Alexandre Djiane. He will be in charge of conducting experiment work and writing scientific manuscripts and reports :

• Writing articles, scientific literature tracking, oral presentations
