The Austrian Academy of Sciences (OeAW), Austria’s leading non-university research and science institution, is offering a

POSTDOC POSITION (F/M/X)

(full‐time, 40h per week, 14 months, possible extension for another 2 years)

in the FWF-funded project “Carnap in Context IV (PAT7905424)”. The expected start of employment is 1 December 2025.

Your Tasks

We are looking for a scholar with a background in formal logic and the history of logical empiricism. The ideal candidate will have a reputation for their work on the philosophy of Rudolf Carnap. Experience with editorial tasks would also be helpful. Familiarity with LaTeX is required.

The position's primary research focus is the study of Carnap's Aufbau, and the main goal of the project is to produce a German edition of the Aufbau, which is scheduled for publication in 2028 by Meiner Verlag in Hamburg.

Your Profile

The candidate should demonstrate a commitment to working with LaTeX and the archive and edition management tool VALEP (https://valep.vc.univie.ac.at/). The main tasks will be preparing the manuscript for the edition of the Aufbau, typesetting it in LaTeX, preparing various indexes, and writing the scientific commentary and introduction. The candidate will work on all these tasks with the principal investigator of this project, Christian Damböck. The edition will also be carried out in close cooperation with the editorial team of the bilingual Aufbau edition, which is projected to be part of the Collected Works series.

Language requirements: Fluent reading and writing in German and English.

Our Offer

We offer for this position a monthly gross salary of € 4.932,90, according to the FWF postdoc salary.
