The Class of Language within the Graduate School Language & Literature at LMU Munich offers excellent conditions for doctoral research. Our program combines a research-oriented and systematically structured interdisciplinary curriculum with individual and intensive supervision by faculty members from a wide range of linguistic disciplines. Members of the Class of Language benefit from diverse opportunities for academic exchange among doctoral candidates, faculty, and international visiting scholars. The program also offers financial support for research and conference travel. Doctoral researchers in the Class of Language can further take advantage of the Graduate School’s strong interdisciplinary environment, which includes the Class of Language Education, the Class of Literature, and the Class of Culture and History.

For the summer semester 2026, the Class of Language (Graduate School Language & Literature, LMU Munich) invites applications for one funded doctoral position (TV-L E13, 50%; expected start date: April 1, 2026), as well as regular unfunded doctoral program places.
Applicants who are admitted but not awarded a scholarship will receive active support in applying for external doctoral funding.

Application deadline: December 7, 2025
