Applications are open for 2 Post-Doctoral Research Fellowships, within the framework of project/R&D institution Grupo de Física Matemática (GFM), 1801P.01443 GFM PROGRAMATICO UIDP 2025-2029, financed by national funds through FCT

Workplan: The selected candidates are expected to integrate one of the research lines of GFM, their description can be found on the webpage https://fisica-matematica.pt/research/

Duration: The research fellowships will have the duration of 12 months. It’s expected to begin in April 2026 and may be eventually renewed for an additional 12 months (maximal total duration of each position: 24 months).

It is mandatory to formalize applications with the submission of the following documents: i) B1 Form – Fellowship application (https://ist-id.pt/recursos-humanos/bolseiros/#documentos-relacionados); ii) Curriculum Vitae; iii) Research statement; iv) Two recommendation letters, which the candidate must arrange to be sent directly by the referees to ana.cruzeiro@tecnico.ulisboa.pt (please, note that the selection committee may contact the referees for additional information if needed); iv) academic degree certificate; v) motivation letter; vi) declaration on honour that the applicant does not exceed with this contract an accumulated period of three years in this type of fellowship, continuously or with interruptions, within the technological and scientific system, and that the research work that led to the PhD degree was carried out in a different entity from the host institution of the fellowship.

Skills/Qualifications

Admission Requirements:

1. 1. to hold a PhD degree obtained in the 3 years previously to the submission of the fellowship application;
2. 2. to have carried out the research work that led to the PhD degree in a different entity from the host institution of the fellowship;
3. 3. Not to exceed, with this fellowship contract, including the possible renovations, an accumulated period of 3 years in this type of fellowship, continuously or with interruptions;
4. 4. Not to have previously held a post-doctoral fellowship from IST-ID.

Benefits

Monthly maintenance allowance: According to the values for Research Fellowships awarded by FCT in Portugal (https://www.fct.pt/fct-atualizou-o-valor-das-bolsas-para-2025/), the amount of the monthly maintenance allowance is € 1851, being the payment method an option of the Fellow by Wire Transfer/Check

Selection process

Selection methods: The selection process will include the following stages: (A) evaluation of the curriculum, (B) assessment of the relevance of the research statement to GFM’s research lines, (C) consideration of recommendation letters, and (D) an optional individual interview (in person or via video call).

A candidate is considered eligible if the combined score of (A), (B), and (C) is 70 out of 100 or higher.

The four candidates with the highest combined scores in (A)+(B)+(C) will be invited to the individual interview.

The final score will be calculated as follows: 40% for (A), 30% for (B), 10% for (C), and 20% for (D). Candidates who are not invited to the interview will receive a score of 0 for (D).

If only two eligible applications are received, the interview stage will be omitted.

Announcement/ notification of the results: The final evaluation results will be communicated to all applicants by email.

Deadlines and procedures of complaint and appeal. A complaint may be lodged from the final decision within 15 working days, or an appeal to the Executive Board of IST-ID within 30 working days, both counted from the respective notification

Workplace: The work will be developed at the Grupo de Física Matemática (GFM) of IST, under the scientific supervision of a permanent member of GFM.
