Job description
The European Synchrotron Radiation Facility (ESRF) is looking for a motivated post doc to join BM05, an ESRF beamline hosting experiments using x-ray phase contrast tomography and Bragg diffraction imaging (BDI).
• You will play an active role in research related to crystal growth and characterization using BDI, in particular Rocking Curve Imaging, for the investigation of defects in crystals with a spatial and angular resolution in the µm and µradian range, respectively.
• You will contribute to in-house research on diamond crystals designed to be used in several fields, including X-ray optical devices.
As a post doc at BM05, you will:
1. Participate to cutting-edge research that exploits Bragg diffraction imaging capabilities implemented at BM05. Within this frame you will be able to develop your own in-house research project, in collaboration with your supervisor.
2. Drive technical developments, ensuring continuous upgrades and improvements of the beamline hardware/software instrumentation.
3. Collaborate with international experts.
4. Present and publish your research findings in conferences, workshops, and peer-reviewed journals.

Qualifications
Educational Qualifications
• PhD in physics, technology, materials science or another closely related field.
Technical Skills
• Experience with X-ray diffraction, X-ray imaging, X-ray optics, or related experimental techniques would be desirable.
• A background in scientific programming would be an important asset.
• Strong background in experimental research, preferably in the development and application of imaging/diffraction techniques
Soft Skills
• Ambition to develop and lead research projects, to the publication level, within a team collaborative work.
• Ability to prioritize and communicate efficiently in a fast-paced environment of a large-scale user facility.
• Ability to collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams and coordinate activities with internal and external colleagues.
• Hands-on approach with a dedication to experimental work.
• Strong communication skills, to present research findings at conferences and to publish in peer-reviewed journals.
• Fluency in English (working language at ESRF).

Working conditions
Contract of 18 months, renewable for a further 6 to 18-month period.
