Třeboň | Centrum ALGATECH – Mikrobiologický ústav AV ČR, v.v.i.

We are seeking a motivated postdoctoral researcher to join our team at the ALGATECH Centre, Institute of Microbiology of the Czech Academy of Sciences (IMIC). The successful candidate will work on a project investigating how infochemicals released by zooplankton influence the morphology and cyanopeptide production of freshwater cyanobacteria and on a project investigating functional role of new red pigments produced by microalgae. This is a part-time position (60% FTE) with a duration of three years.


Who are we?

The ALGATECH Centre is a branch of the Institute of Microbiology of the Czech Academy of Sciences (IMIC), located in Třeboň. Situated beside the scenic Svět pond, we focus on research into microalgae and cyanobacteria. Our centre hosts several internationally recognised research groups, a high proportion of international researchers, and offers a friendly, collegial working environment with English as the primary language.


Role and Responsibilities:

  • • Conduct laboratory experiments assessing zooplankton–cyanobacteria interactions.,
  • • Learn to prepare samples for mass spectrometry analysis,
  • • Bioactivity guided fractionation and isolation of the cyanopeptides
  • • Collaborate with the project team on data analysis and publication of results,

Skills/Qualifications

  • • PhD in ecology, microbiology, chemistry or a related field
  • • Strong knowledge of zooplankton and cyanobacteria and algae taxonomy and identification
  • • Experience with laboratory culture, microscopy, and aquatic experiments as well as separation and purification techniques
  • • Ability to plan and execute controlled lab experiments
  • • Familiarity with data analysis and scientific writing
  • • Excellent communication skills in English
  • • Meticulous, independent, organized and reliable
