In the framework of the development of barocaloric refrigerators (collaborative European project EIC Pathfinder with 9 partners from 4 different countries https://frostbitproject.eu), we are looking for a postdoctoral researcher to join us at CRM2[1] at the Université de Lorraine, France. This is a full-time, 24-month position focusing on the measurement of phase diagrams (T, P) of spin crossover (SCO) compounds using X-ray diffraction (XRD) and diffusion techniques. In particular, the structural behavior of powder and ceramic-like SCO materials will be investigated using total X-ray scattering (coupled to the analysis of the pair distribution function) in order to gain insight into the structure – property relationship.

The work will be carried out under the supervision of Dr. Maxime Deutsch and Dr. Dominik Schaniel. At CRM2, our research focuses on exploring materials under non-ambient conditions—combining pressure, temperature, light irradiation—with advanced characterization techniques including XRD and complementary spectroscopic techniques.

Skills/Qualifications

Applicants should have a solid background in physics. Specific expertise in at least one of the two following domains is requires: high-pressure techniques (in particular using Diamond Anvil cells) or with total X-ray scattering and pair distribution function analysis. Familiarity with phase transitions and thermodynamics will be considered a strong asset.
