The Laboratory of Pathophysiology and Therapies for Vision Diseases is working on project CIAICO/2023/210, for which it needs to hire a person who will participate in this project for 11 months, carrying out the following tasks:

• • Ocular tests: electroretinography in mice, biomicroscopy, fundus examination.
• • Cell cultures of retinal cells and microglia, and organotypic retinal cultures.
• • In vitro and ex vivo toxicity assays on the samples mentioned above.
• • Handling of mice with retinal diseases.
• • Collection of ocular samples and processing for biochemical and gene expression studies (qPCR).
• • Histological studies and flow cytometry in mouse retina.
• • Collaboration in supervising students.

Basic requirements of the position:

• • Required qualification: The candidate must hold a PhD degree in Biotechnology or related disciplines (Biology, Biochemistry, Biomedical Sciences).
• • Intermediate to high level of English, both spoken and written.
• • Intermediate to high level of computer skills (GraphPad, Excel, CytExpert, etc.).

Experience required:

• • Animal colony management, especially mice, including behavioral tests and ocular drug administration.
• • Experience in electroretinography, fundus analysis, and biomicroscopy in mice.
• • Experience in histological techniques on retinal tissue.
• • Experience in cell cultures and particularly in flow cytometry.
• • Experience in performing real-time PCR and ELISA.
• • Experience in statistical analysis of results and interpretation.
• • Experience in supervising students.
• • Proficiency in database management and software such as CytExpert, GraphPad, etc.
