The offer is associated with the NCN project “Transport and transformation of total alkalinity from continental rivers - the missing components for understanding pH variation in the Baltic Sea” and is addressed to researchers interested in hydrochemical aspects of the observed environmental changes in the Baltic region.

The post-doc will be involved in laboratory analyses of water samples taken during the project (during research cruises a, in monitoring stations on land and during incubation experiments). The analyses will involve the macroion composition (HCO3-, Cl-, SO42-, F-, Br-, NO3-, NO2-, Ca2+, Mg2+, K+, Na+, NH4+) as well as microscope analyses of suspended particles to recognize the occurrence and morphology of carbonate crystals. The analyses will be performed in the laboratory of Biogeochemistry Research Group, AMU with colorimetric titration, UV-Vis spectrophotometer, ion chromatography and SEM-EDS.

In addition, the responsibility of the post-doc will be the interpretation of hydrochemical data collected during long-term monitoring as well as contributing to writing of scientific publications.

Skills/Qualifications

The competition is open to individuals who meet the requirements specified in Article 113 of the Law on Higher Education and Science of 20 July 2018 (Journal of Laws of 2024, item 1571, Article 113 as amended) and who meet the following requirements:

1. Fulfills requirements specified in the resolution of the NCN Council no. 133/2020 of 11 December 2020 r. („W sprawie określenia Regulaminu przyznawania środków na realizację zadań finansowanych przez Narodowe Centrum Nauki w konkursach międzynarodowych organizowanych we współpracy wielostronnej w oparciu o procedurę agencji wiodącej (Lead Agency Procedure)”

2. Preferably has a PhD degree in the field of chemistry, marine chemistry or oceanography. The applications of PhD holders in environmental chemistry, limnology, hydrology and hydrogeology will also be considered.

3. Demonstrates proficiency in understanding marine carbonate system

Has publication achievements and participated in scientific conferences
