The NOVA Institute of Philosophy is seeking to recruit two Post-Doctoral Fellows in the scope of the Project MultiPoD – Multilingual and Multicultural Spaces for Political Deliberation, funded the European Commission under the European Union's Horizon Europe research and innovation programme (Grant Agreement No. 101178821), in accordance with the following terms:

Work plan: The hired researchers will be integrated into the project team, participating in the following scientific research and knowledge dissemination tasks:

- Together with the Lisbon team, the selected researchers will analyse, applying empirical methods of Argumentation Studies and applied Philosophy of Language, linguistic data (in English and Portuguese) collected during eight discussion/focus group sessions held in November/December 2025, to systematically study obstacles to political deliberation facing people with different cultural and linguistic background. The research will centre on the following themes: various forms of silencing and other communicative and epistemic injustices; different styles of communication and argumentation; gender prejudices that deprive women of equal participation; fallacies and implicit premises in argumentation; argumentation over contested concepts.

- It is hoped that the results of the analyses will lead to possible proposals for improvement informed by recent theorising in the fields of Argumentation Theory, Philosophy of Language and Social Epistemology.

- Together with the project's PI and other team members, the researcher will produce the project's expected results (documents, reports, scientific publications, etc.).

- The researcher will be directly involved in the day-to-day management of the project, in its scientific, administrative and budgetary aspects.

The work will be carried out under the scientific supervision of the project’s Principal Investigator, Professor Marcin Lewiński, and the team member, Dr Giulia Terzian.

Duration of the grants: The grants will last for 6 months and are expected to start in April 2026. The grants may be renewed up to a maximum of 20 months.

2. Certificates of academic qualifications held;

2.1. In the case of academic degrees obtained at foreign higher education institutions, in addition to the original certificates it is necessary to present the Portuguese recognition of the degrees obtained, in accordance with Decree-Law No. 66/2018, of 16 August; or, in the absence of recognition at the time of application, a declaration on honour that this recognition will be made before the scholarship is contracted in the event of the candidate being selected. However, it is compulsory to present the recognition before the scholarship is contracted.

3. Motivation letter (1 page), written in English, which makes explicit the articulation of the candidate's research activities with the project and with the scientific research tasks defined in the call for proposals;

4. One (1) relevant publication.

Each candidate may submit only one application.

If candidates make false declarations or commit acts of plagiarism, their application will be cancelled, without prejudice to the adoption of other sanctioning measures.

Researcher Profiles: PhD degree obtained within three years prior to the date of submission of the application.
