48 Months, Fixed Term Full-Time Post
Position Summary
The School of the Human Environment, University College Cork seeks a highly motivated and dynamic Post-Doctoral Researcher to join the MI-funded project FishFrame, which main aim is to develop fishery community profiles in Ireland. Open to EU and non-EU applicants, FishFrame aims to develop a dynamic, modular framework for profiling Irish fishery communities, integrating quantitative and qualitative data to advance knowledge and practice.
The project will engage with local communities, industry, and stakeholders to enhance marine governance and fisheries management. The successful candidate will be physically based at University College Cork (Ireland) within the Department of Geography and/or one of several BIM offices. They will also have the option to be associated with the Radical Humanities Laboratory (UCC).
They will be proficient in community-engaged, ethnographic qualitative research and have ability to address the cultural, social, and economic factors that contribute to overlap among multiple fishery communities and contexts. They will also be excellent communicators with experience managing projects.
Additional experience and knowledge in any of the following areas would be highly valued: prior work on fishery community profiling using established methodology; scholarly review and compiling datasets; statistical and spatial analysis; archival, ethnographic, and participatory research; GIS and social network mapping; policy input; socio-economic modelling and analysis; and synthesising quantitative and qualitative data.
Achievement of the expected progression within Post Doc and Senior Post Doc is transferable between the Irish HEI’s. This can be reflected in the starting pay of a PD researcher. Similarly, as the PD scheme is an intergenerational training scheme completion of PD1 or PD 2 levels in one HEI will normally render that researcher ineligible for appointment at a similar level in another Irish HEIResearcher Career Development Framework | Irish Universities Association
