The successful candidate will join a research program focused on the development, characterization, and biological evaluation of photothermally active molybdenum oxide (MoOx) nanoparticles for drug‑free and combination cancer therapies.


The work includes the synthesis of MoOx nanoparticles via multiple preparation methods and functionalization strategies to tailor and stabilize their pH-dependent behavior. Another part of the research is aimed at the incorporation of MoOx nanoparticles into selected polymer matrices in order to investigate their suitability for biomedical applications. The position further includes detailed characterization of MoOx nanoparticles and their counterparts in polymer matrices using spectroscopic, microscopic and scanning-probe techniques (AFM, nano-FTIR, near-field nanoscopy, Raman microscopy, XPS) complemented by X-ray-based analyses. The candidate will also participate in evaluating the photothermal behaviour of MoOx nanoparticles and polymer–nanoparticle composites and their testing in various cell culture models to understand mechanisms of action and therapeutic potential.


The position involves active involvement in scientific publishing, dissemination of work results, and mentoring of doctoral students in a multidisciplinary research environment involving nanomaterials chemistry, biophysics, polymer science, and advanced microscopy.

Skills/Qualifications

  • We seek an open‑minded, academically driven Post-doctoral Researcher with:
  • • A PhD (or equivalent) in Physics, Chemistry, Biophysics, or a closely related field.
  • • A strong research interest in the physics, characterization, and applications of nanostructures.
  • • Excellent command of English and well‑developed collaborative competencies, including time management, critical thinking, and independent problem solving.
  • • Documented experience in a research environment involving materials science, polymer science, nanomaterials, or biophysics.
  • • Proven ability in scientific writing, including contributions to project proposals, manuscripts, and technical reports.
  • • Experience with student supervision, mentoring, or laboratory training, demonstrating the capacity to support junior researchers.
  • • Ability to work independently while contributing effectively to a multidisciplinary research team.

Specific Requirements

  • • Experience in the synthesis and characterization of photohermally active MoOx nanoparticles, using methods such as liquid phase exfoliation, chemical reduction, and microwave assisted non aqueous sol-gel synthesis.
  • • Knowledge of applying functionalization techniques to modulate the pH‑responsive properties of MoOx and to shield these properties from interference by the surrounding medium.
  • • A publication record demonstrating the candidate’s contributions to the synthesis, functionalization, and photothermal evaluation of MoOx‑based nanomaterials, including their application across different cell culture models.
  • • Proficiency in performing and analyzing AFM, Confocal Raman Microscopy, FTIR, Ellipsometry, UV-Vis spectrophotometry, label-free CRM of cells.
  • • Proficiency in the analysis and interpretation of TEM, SEM, XPS, and XRD data.
  • • Practical experience in performing and analyzing near‑field nanoscopy (sSNOM/nanoFTIR) and/or AFM Force Spectroscopy measurements.
  • • Practical experience in handling and maintaining cell cultures.
