Job Summary/offer:

• Participation in and independent management of research projects in the above-mentioned subject areas

• Development of an (automated) touchscreen-based platform for conducting learning tasks with dogs and wolves

• Acquisition of third-party funding

• Independent preparation and delivery of courses in the English-taught Master’s program Human–Animal Interaction (IMHAI), in accordance with the university’s assignment

• Supervision of students (including office hours and examination duties), as well as supervision and guidance of doctoral candidates and students• Participation in evaluation activities

• General administrative and organizational duties.

Main Research Field: This postdoctoral position is based at the Domestication Lab of the Konrad-Lorenz-Institute, Department of Interdisciplinary Life Sciences. The Domestication Lab is dedicated to studying behavioral and cognitive differences and similarities between wolves and dogs to gain insights into the domestication process. Our research goes beyond animal behavior and includes investigations into human attitudes toward these species, as well as questions about how differing perceptions can influence animal behavior. Currently, the team conducts research at the Core Facility Wolf Science Center, the Clever Dog Lab, and two field stations focused on studying free-ranging dogs and wolves

Specific Requirements

Necessary education, knowledge and qualifications:

•Degree in biology, Natural Sciences as well as a completed PhD or Doctorate.

•Extensive experience in the field of animal behavior and cognition

•Excellent English skills (C1 level).

Desirable qualifications, abilities and skills:

•Proficiency in statistics and programming (e.g., R, Matlab, Python, Bonsai, etc.).

•Independent, precise, and solution-oriented working style.

•Experience in experimental design and mentoring students.

•Experience in obtaining funding and grants.

•Excellent teamwork and communication skills, with high commitment and reliability.
