There is an open call for applications for 1 Research Grant (BI) for 3 months, renewable for another 3, starting on 31st March 2026.

The main tasks of this plan are:

1. Establish the green extraction process of phenolic compounds from a bee-derived product;
2. Apply purification procedures to the extract and isolate individual compounds;
3. Evaluate the bee-derived extract: toxicity, biological properties, and chemical/instrumental characterization;
4. Develop R code for data processing and analysis;
5. Support the dissemination and exploitation of the results obtained in the work.

Skills / Qualifications:

The candidate must:

1) be enrolled in a PhD program in the field of Biological Sciences or related areas;

2) hold a Master’s degree in Biological Sciences;

3) have academic training and professional experience aligned with the objectives of the work to be developed in applications of extracts in human health;

4) have experience in toxicity assessment and in the evaluation of bioactive properties of natural products, as well as in microbiological analysis and fermentative processes;

5) have knowledge of spectrophotometric, chromatographic, and voltammetric techniques;

6) have experience in extraction processes and methodologies;

7) demonstrate proficiency in Portuguese and English (both written and spoken).

Specific requirements:

The candidate must be enrolled in a PhD program in the field of Biological Sciences or related areas and have a master's degree in the field of biological sciences.

Required languages:

Portuguese and English (both written and spoken).

Selection process:

The selection methods to be used will be as follows:

1) Curriculum vitae evaluation and its suitability for the project in question (50%);

2) Experience in extract analysis (15%);

3) Experience in microbiological and chemical analysis methods (15%);

4) Experience in bioactivity studies (10%);

5) Experience in using R software (10%).

The jury may not award the grant if the candidates' classification is below 9.5 (on a scale of 0 to 20).

The jury will be composed of Doctor Letícia Estevinho (President of the Jury), Doctor Teresa Dias, and Doctor Sandra Rodrigues.
