Main Mission :

• Develop and transmit knowledge based on research achievements within initial and continuing education.
• Organize teaching within pedagogical teams in connection with professional environments.
• Teach urbanism in connection with architectural design throughout the entire curriculum.
• Supervise, assess, advise, guide and contribute to students’ professional integration.
• Develop and contribute to fundamental and applied research in architecture, city and spatial planning.
• Promote research results and contribute to dialogue between science and society.
• Train young researchers and students through and for research.
• Participate in administrative activities and pedagogical coordination within the department and the AMUP laboratory, including European and international cooperation actions.
• Participate in European and international cooperation activities.

Main Teaching Activities :

The candidate shall explain how their teaching promotes frugal architectural and urban projects adapted to the ecological and climate transitions currently shaping our cities and societies.

Attentive to the new mediating functions of the architect-urban planner and to issues of socio-spatial justice, the candidate shall also demonstrate interest in new participatory dynamics and knowledge of democratic engagement tools in programming and design processes.

More broadly, strong knowledge of urban policies, operational and regulatory urban tools, stakeholders involved and governance frameworks of projects is highly desirable in order to strengthen the Architect-Engineer pathway promoted by the institution, through solid acculturation to the various social and spatial engineering processes involved in territorial projects.

An architect trained in urban and/or territorial design, the candidate must be capable of contributing to training at the intersection of physical and spatial knowledge of living environments, anthropological and social sciences, and technical design cultures.

They shall be involved in architecture teaching, including the Architect-Engineer pathway (AI), particularly, and without limitation:

  • • Supervision of design studios at Bachelor and Master levels (contextualization of architectural projects, introduction to urban design, semester projects on city and territory, etc.)
  • • Supervision of research dissertations
  • • Supervision of final-year projects (PFE) as academic director
  • • Organization and supervision of study trips
  • • Theoretical courses in the fields of city and territories

In collaboration with other members of the teaching team, the recruited person must be able to support and/or lead teaching in various fields, including: “Tools for Territorial Management, Analysis and Organization,” “Cultures of Dwelling,” “History of Architecture, the City and Urban Typo-Morphologies,” “Theory of Urbanism and Landscape.”

Service obligations also include participation in administrative duties and collective management of department life (partnerships, representation, pedagogical organization, etc.).

Main Research Activities :

Research within INSA Strasbourg’s architecture school plays a key role in strengthening the academic recognition of architects, particularly through doctoral training. It contributes to the reflexivity of architectural practices and project cultures in architecture and urbanism. It addresses socio-ecological, economic and technical challenges at different territorial scales, in order to respond to transition issues (ecological, climate-related, societal, digital) through design and to renew research in architecture and urbanism.

The recruited person shall develop research activities within AMUP, aligning with the laboratory’s thematic axes and actively participating in its scientific life. Their integration into the laboratory is expected to renew and enrich existing work through their own themes, networks, expertise and experience, while taking into account other research teams within the institution (civil engineering, geomatics, thermal and energy engineering). Particularly expected missions include:

  • • The development of new partnerships at regional, national and international levels.
  • • The development of research on transitions at both the architectural and metropolitan levels.

Without this being exhaustive, candidates may also highlight their reflections on cross-border cultures or contributions to science in society through the deployment of action research and participatory methods and projects open to different audiences, including socio-economic, political and associative circles.

More generally, the objective is to further develop research practice in architectural design in order to address transition challenges (ecological, climate-related, societal, digital) and the increasing complexity of data.
