Inserm is the only French public organisation entirely dedicated to biological, medical and population health research. It has research laboratories throughout France, grouped into 12 Regional Delegations. Our institute brings together 15,000 researchers, engineers, technicians and administrative staff with a common goal: to improve everyone's health through advances in knowledge about living organisms and diseases, innovation in treatments and public health research.

Joining Inserm means joining an institute committed to gender parity and professional equality, diversity and support for its employees with disabilities, from recruitment and throughout their careers. In order to promote well-being at work, Inserm pursues an active policy on working conditions, based in particular on a fair balance between personal and professional life.

In 2016, Inserm received the European HR Excellence in Research label and committed to developing its recruitment and evaluation practices for researchers.

The Center for Translational and Molecular Medicine comprises 9 research teams with a total of 337 members (147 researchers/teacher-researchers, 110 technicians/engineers, 12 postdoctoral fellows, and 68 PhD students). https://ctm.ube.fr

The GAD team (Prof. Christel Thauvin) investigates the molecular bases of neurodevelopmental and neurodegenerative disorders. Through a multidisciplinary approach combining genetics, cellular models such as iPSCs, cerebral organoids, animal models, and advanced bioinformatic analyses, the OMICS group led by Professor Antonio Vitobello seeks to understand disease mechanisms and pave the way for new therapeutic strategies.

Main mission :

We recently discovered that germline PTBP1 variants displaying altered nucleocytoplasmic distribution cause skeletal dysplasia, tooth anomalies, and developmental delay (STAD) syndrome, also known as Masson-Paccaud-Vitobello syndrome. This project is part of an ongoing effort funded by the French National Research Agency (ANR) to characterize the neurodevelopmental and skeletal trajectories of STAD at single-cell resolution, using a knock-in (start-loss) mouse model and patient-derived cerebral organoids. We leverage cutting-edge omics technologies, including single-cell and spatial transcriptomics, alongside cell and molecular assays, to dissect the underlying mechanisms.

The selected candidate will investigate the neurodevelopmental aspects of the STAD mouse model.

Main activities :

  • Prepare and process developmental samples for cellular, molecular, and single-cell/spatial transcriptomic analyses.
  • Perform histological characterization, immunostaining, and advanced imaging to assess neuroanatomy and cytoarchitecture.
  • Design, execute, and troubleshoot experiments independently, integrating experimental results with omics datasets.
  • Maintain and breed mouse lines relevant for the study.
  • Collaborate with bioinformaticians, postdocs, and PhD students.
  • Disseminate results through scientific publications and conference presentations.
  • Participate in ongoing team projects.
  • Supervise Master’s and PhD students, where appropriate.
  • Apply for funding opportunities or longer-term positions to support career development.
  • Participate in lab meetings and scientific discussions

Knowledge:

  • Neurobiology
  • Cell, molecular, and animal biology
  • Familiarity with single-cell multi-omics approaches
  • Data analysis and interpretation (knowledge of R and/or Python is a plus)

Education and qualifications :

PhD in Neuroscience, Systems Biology, Developmental Biology or a related field with omics-oriented skills (Candidates finalizing their PhD should provide expected defense date)
