(35) Months, Fixed Term, whole-time post

Applications are invited for the post of Post-Doctoral Researcher to join the government funded ObSERVE programme in the School of Biological, Earth & Environmental Sciences (BEES) and the MaREI Centre in University College Cork (UCC).

The ObSERVE project aims to provide updated information on the distribution and abundance of marine megafauna in the Irish EEZ through aerial surveys. The post-holder will help deliver an ambitious aerial survey programme and contribute to project reporting and publications. The postdoctoral researcher will be required to participate in aerial surveys in summer, autumn and winter of 2026 and 2027, identifying and recording the presence of marine species. They will play an integral role in organising survey logistics and liaising with aircraft operators as well as undertaking analysis of sightings data for modelling species distributions.

Please note that Garda vetting and/or an international police clearance check may form part of the selection process.

Achievement of the expected progression within Post Doc and Senior Post Doc is transferable between the Irish HEI’s. This can be reflected in the starting pay of a PD researcher. Similarly, as the PD scheme is an intergenerational training scheme completion of PD1 or PD 2 levels in one HEI will normally render that researcher ineligible for appointment at a similar level in another Irish HEI Researcher Career Development Framework | Irish Universities Association

Please note that Garda vetting and/or an international police clearance check may form part of the selection process.

Project Title: ObSERVE III

Post Duration: 35 months, whole-time post.

Informal enquiries can be made in confidence to Professor Emer Rogan: email: e.rogan@ucc.ie, or Dr Mark Jessopp email: m.jessopp@ucc.ie, School of Biological, Earth & Environmental Sciences.
