We have a 2-year postdoctoral position available in deep ocean dynamics and machine learning, based at the Laboratoire d'Océanographie Physique et Spatiale (LOPS), Université de Bretagne Occidentale (UBO), Brest, France. The position involves joint supervision between LOPS and Lab-STICC (IMT Atlantique).

The project focuses on advancing the understanding and prediction of deep-sea currents by integrating in situ observations, high-resolution numerical simulations, and machine learning approaches. The work has broad applications in oceanography, climate science, marine ecosystems, and sediment transport.

Skills/Qualifications

  • • PhD in physical oceanography, geophysical fluid dynamics, machine learning, computer science, or a related field
  • • Experience in large-scale oceanographic data analysis and/or numerical ocean modeling
  • • Strong programming skills (Python and/or Julia)
  • • Experience with machine learning frameworks (PyTorch and/or JAX)
  • • Collaborative and interdisciplinary mindset
  • • Excellent communication skills in English
