12 months, Fixed Term, whole-time Post
Applications are invited for the position of Senior Postdoctoral Researcher to join the Coastal & Marine Science Communication, Stakeholder Engagement & Societal Impact (SCEI) research group within the Coastal & Marine Systems (CMS) Research Area of the Sustainability Institute at University College Cork. The position is based at the Beaufort Building, Haulbowline Road, Ringaskiddy, Co. Cork, Ireland.
The successful candidate will join an international, interdisciplinary consortium delivering a Horizon Europe project focused on accelerating the uptake of knowledge-to-action tools that support the prevention and reduction of pollution from source to sea, contributing to the objectives of the EU Mission Restore our Ocean and Waters.
The postholder will play a leading role in the social science, stakeholder engagement, and science communication activities of the project, contributing to the co-design, evaluation, and uptake of an innovative Knowledge-to-Action Toolbox for public authorities, policy makers, industry, and other end users. The role includes planning and facilitating stakeholder consultations, focus groups, interviews, and co-design workshops across multiple governance levels, synthesising stakeholder requirements into practical guidance for toolbox development, and evaluating the effectiveness and usability of project outputs.
The successful candidate will also contribute to policy analysis and the assessment of existing knowledge-to-action tools, support the preparation of policy briefs, factsheets, and other communication resources, and work closely with project partners to maximise project impact. They will collaborate with leading European research organisations and stakeholder networks while contributing to high-quality scientific outputs, project deliverables, and dissemination activities.
The ideal candidate will have experience working in Horizon Europe or other European funded projects, a strong background in social science research, stakeholder engagement and science communication, and preferably experience in environmental pollution, marine litter, plastics, or broader sustainability and environmental policy research.
Achievement of the expected progression within Post Doc and Senior Post Doc is transferable between the Irish HEI’s. This can be reflected in the starting pay of a PD researcher. Similarly, as the PD scheme is an intergenerational training scheme completion of PD1 or PD 2 levels in one HEI will normally render that researcher ineligible for appointment at a similar level in another Irish HEI Researcher Career Development Framework | Irish Universities Association
Please note that Garda vetting and/or an international police clearance check may form part of the selection process.
