Context: This study contributes to ongoing research at IUSTI into the fundamental mechanisms governing mixing processes between and within complex media. Recent studies have focused on mixing between liquids of differing viscosities, highlighting and explaining the critical role of the viscosity ratio in the phenomenology and mixing time of a small inclusion—whether more or less viscous than the surrounding fluid—while noting a qualitative dependence on the flow type. The aim now is to explore mixing between two comparable masses (or volumes), focusing specifically on the evolution of forces and drag within the flow during the mixing process.

Objectives: The primary objective is to investigate, both experimentally and theoretically, the mixing dynamics of liquids with differing viscosities. Several experimental configurations are envisaged. The work involves developing experimental setups and conducting test campaigns to measure flow characteristics, morphological evolution, and mixing times, as well as any other parameters relevant to understanding the mixing process.

The role encompasses all aspects of a young researcher's work, including the development of experimental setups; the execution, analysis, and interpretation of experiments; modeling and presentation of results; and the writing of articles and dissemination of findings at conferences.
