Context

Mines Paris, a component of PSL University, trains engineers capable of tackling the challenges of tomorrow. As part of its strategic plan, Mines Paris aims to be a leading player in the fields of innovation and entrepreneurship, energy transition and materials for more efficient technologies, as well as mathematics and digital engineering for the transformation of industry, including healthcare. Since its founding in 1783, it has remained true to its core values of solidarity and openness to society.

The Robotics Center’s focus on AI and Machine Learning (ML) involves algorithmic and experimental research on adapting cutting-edge AI/ML models and methods to the needs of key application sectors: autonomous vehicles and intelligent transportation, the industry of the future, and collaborative or mobile robotics.

Within the Robotics Center, the position will be attached to the Industrial Engineering team, whose research interests revolve around the digitalization of environments related to operations and supply chain management. The team contributes to research and teaching, notably through the Urban Logistics Chair and the Specialized Master's program in Industrial Management and Logistics Systems.

Research project

In supply chains, the flow of goods is constantly challenged by the constraints of speed and variability. These factors significantly contribute to uncertainty in decision-making.
This project aims to enhance service quality and reduce distribution costs by enabling informed decisions based on probable outcomes.

The project focuses on sequential decision problems. It will explore modeling and optimization techniques—such as reinforcement learning and stochastic optimization—to effectively manage and reduce uncertainty in a supply chain context.

The main activities of the position will be:

  • Study the state-of-the-art bibliography
  • Identify relevant supply chain use cases involving sequential decisions
  • Evaluate the performance of different modelling approaches and policies
  • Collaborate with companies on real use cases
  • Write internal report and scientific papers
  • Disseminate the results in scientific events

Hiring conditions

  • 12-month full-time post-doctoral contract
  • The successful candidate will be offered a salary commensurate to CV and Mines Paris PSL University salary scale
  • The position is open to all, with accommodations available for candidates with disabilities
  • Start date: Between May 2025 and January 1st 2025, for a 12 months duration
  • Assignments will be carried out in the Robotics Lab in Mines Paris PSL University, 60 Boulevard Saint Michel, Paris, France
