Spectroscopy of polaritons in optical Fabry-Pérot cavities

  • Keywords: experiments, fabrication of Fabry-Pérot optical cavities, optical characterization, ultrafast molecular spectroscopy, organic optoelectronics, collaborative research project and environment.

  • Context:The emergent and fast-growing field of “polaritonic chemistry” [1] deals with the modulation of the physico-chemical properties of molecules or materials that are strongly and resonantly coupled to the electromagnetic mode of a Fabry-Pérot cavity. It was indeed reported experimentally that upon entering the electronic [2] or vibrational [3] strong-coupling (polaritonic) regime, various optical and physico-chemical properties of the embedded molecules including their chemical reactivity and kinetics [2,3] could be significantly modified. This suggests potential applications of a new generation of innovative cavity-embedded materials with new functionalities in different optoelectronic devices [1]. There is now a strong need in this competitive field to perform new experiments [4], develop innovative technological applications [5], and understand better the physico-chemical properties of the molecules deep in the strong-coupling regime.

In this postdoctoral experimental research project, the candidate willdesign, fabricate and characterize paradigmatic resonant Fabry-Pérot optical cavities containing organic materials and reaching the electronic polaritonic regime.

The candidate will perform measurements of the cavity optical properties, by using absorption and transient fluorescence spectroscopies, thus leading to quantitative measurements and tabulation of the relaxation pathways and relaxation rates from the hybrid light-matter polaritonic states.

  • The candidate profile: We are looking for a postdoctoral researcher who will work at the University of Bordeaux, in the teams of Sophie Fasquel (IMS, CNRS and University of Bordeaux) and Gediminas Jonusauskas (LOMA, CNRS and University of Bordeaux). The candidate will work in a highly collaborative and interdisciplinary research environment. The candidate should have a background in the field of optical Fabry-Pérot cavities, organic optoelectronics and optical characterizations such as ultrafast molecular spectroscopies. Professional fluency in English is required and the capacity to work in a collaborative and dynamic environment would be appreciated. The candidate should send a motivation letter, a CV, and contact details of two references before the 6th of May to Dr. Fasquel (sophie.fasquel-perrin@u-bordeaux.fr) and Dr. Jonusauskas (gediminas.jonusauskas@u-bordeaux.fr).

  • Duration: 12 months
  • Gross salary: 2600-2900 euros per month depending on theexperience of the candidate.
  • Starting date: September 2025
