We invite applications for a research assistant professor position (postdoctoral research equivalent) at the Astronomical Observatory, University of Warsaw, Poland, in an ERC grant "Long Secondary Periods in Pulsating Red Giants - Traces of Exoplanets?". The responsibilities of the selected candidate will include working with photometric data from the OGLE project, primarily involving statistical analysis of long-period variable (LPV) stars, incorporating public photometric and spectroscopic data, as well as participating in the creation of catalogs of LPV stars.

The candidates have to conform to the conditions stated in art. 113 of Higher Education Law dated 20.07.2018 (Journal of Laws of the Republic of Poland 2024, item 1571 with further amendments).

Skills/Qualifications

- PhD in astronomy/astrophysics received during the last 7 years

-  at least one-year employment in academic or research institution after the PhD

- documented research experience in analysis of photometric time-series, especially variable star research, such as light curve classification and analysis, as well as the statistical analysis of variable star catalogues (previous experience with Long Period Variables or binary systems would be welcome)

- good programming and data-visualisation skills

- experience with Linux operating systems

- good publication record in variable star astrophysics
- fluency in written and spoken English

significant scientific achievements,

- international experience,

- presentation of a plan for further research activities.

Key responsibilities:

The successful applicant will work on the statistical analysis of LPV stars, involving both photometric and spectroscopic data. The aim is to investigate the eclipse detection efficiency in LSP stars and to determine the parameters of the companion in LSP systems. The analysis will require the ability to work with large datasets in a Linux environment, as well as experience in working with variable stars. The research will be based primarily on photometric data from the OGLE project but will also require the use of publicly available photometric and spectroscopic data.

Specific Requirements

The candidate should provide the following documents:
