Missions
The project aims to consider the development of a new type of detector dedicated to the study of proton radioactivity. The detector will be installed on a low-energy beamline (30 keV) and will benefit from the purified beams of S3LEB.


The missions entrusted will be:
• A detailed study of the different types of existing proton detectors, in order to determine which would be most suited to future needs.
• Selection of scientific cases of interest and development of corresponding laser ionization schemes
• Participation in the development of the ACTAR detector
The recruited person will be encouraged to present their results and technical advances at international conferences and in scientific journals.


Activities
In this project, the recruited person will work on the following activities:
• Studies and simulations of different types of detectors that can be used for the detection of proton radioactivity on a low-energy beamline.
• Development of laser ionization schemes for chemical elements of interest.
• Experimental tests on the characterization of detectors and associated electronics.
The experimental tests will take place at GANIL in Caen. This work will be carried out in close collaboration with teams working at LPC Caen and GANIL in France.
As part of this postdoctoral position, the recruited person will be responsible for:
• Scientific case studies and the study of detectors that can be used for the successful completion of the project.
• Conducting experimental tests.
• Analyzing and publishing the results.
The recruited person will also be heavily involved in the final characterization phases of the S3LEB experimental setup, a tool dedicated to the study of exotic nuclei via laser spectroscopy and mass spectrometry measurements. S3LEB is one of two experimental setups that will be installed in turn at the focal plane of the new generation S3 spectrometer at GANIL in France. S3LEB has been characterized offline at LPC Caen and is currently being installed at GANIL. The first radioactive beam tests are planned for 2026.
In this project, the recruited person will have the opportunity to:
• Collaborate with world-class experts in nuclear physics (based at various facilities such as LPC Caen and GANIL in France or Jyväskylä in Finland, as well as GSI-FAIR in Germany, KU Leuven in Belgium, or CERN)
• Work on outstanding questions in the study of nuclear structure and nuclear astrophysics.
In addition, the recruited person will be encouraged and supported for any interest in specific physics questions and/or new experimental techniques related to low-energy nuclear physics.
