Call open for applications for a postdoctoral research grant within the framework of project “TAILWIND – Sustainable station-keeping systems for floating wind”, with the Grant Agreement nº 101136195 — TAILWIND — HORIZON-CL5-2023-D3-01, financed by the European Union, in the scope of Horizon Europe Framework Programme, under the following conditions:

Scientific Area: Marine Renewable Energies and Offshore Renewables

Admission requirements:

Candidates who cumulatively meet the following requirements may apply for this grant:

a) Hold a PhD degree in Civil Engineering, Ocean Engineering, Marine Renewable Energies, Mechanical Engineering, or related fields, obtained in the last three years before the application to this grant;

b) The Post-doctoral research is carried out in a host entity other than the one where the research work that led to the award of the PhD degree was developed.

c) Do not exceed, with this scholarship contract, including renewals, an accumulated period of three years in this condition, followed or interpolated.

If the degree has been awarded by a foreign higher education institution, it must comply with the provisions of the Decree-Law no. 66/2018, of august 16th, and any formalities established there must be fulfilled until the time of signing the contract.

Activity Outline: The European Project TAILWIND (https://tailwind-project.eu/) is focused on improving mooring and anchoring (station-keeping) technologies for floating offshore wind farms. Activities to be developed are related to the case study on the Portuguese Atlantic coast. The researcher will be integrated in the research team of Department of Civil and Georesources Engineering and will work in the: i) definition of hydrodynamic actions for the Atlantic coast (waves, currents, wind); ii) selection of floater, mooring line and anchor system; iii) hydrodynamic modelling and experimental testing; iv) scour assessment; among others.

Legislation and regulations: Law Nº. 40/2004, of 18th August, in its current wording (Statutes of Scientific Research Fellow) and Regulation of Research Grants of University of Porto.

Work place: The work will be developed at the Department of Civil and Georesources Engineering of the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto (FEUP), under the scientific supervision of Prof. Paulo Jorge Rosa Santos, Francisco Taveira Pinto and Tiago Fazeres Ferradosa.

Grant duration: Initial duration of 12 months, with the predicted starting date in July 2025, on an exclusive basis eventually renewable but never exceeding the project duration.

If it is not possible to ensure the duration of 12 months estimated in the previous paragraph, this duration will be adjusted according to the end date of the project, and provided that the minimum duration of 3 consecutive months is guaranteed, in accordance with paragraph 2 of article 10 of the Research Regulation of Research Grants of University of Porto.

The eventual renewal of the scholarship will be carried out as determined in paragraph 2 of article 10 of the Research Regulation of Research Grants of University of Porto.

Stipend: The grant stipend amounts to 1.851,00€ according to the table of values of the Regulation of Research Grants of University of Porto. The payment will be made by bank transfer.

Selection procedure:

The curricular evaluation (60%) of the candidates will be evaluated based on the merit of the candidate and the following factor will be evaluated:

a) Academic training (Ph.D. in Civil Engineering, Ocean Engineering, Marine Renewable Energies, Mechanical Engineering – 6 points; others area – up to 3 points)

b) Publications in the area of marine renewable energies, dynamics of floating systems, mooring systems – up to 8 points, Publications in other areas – up to 4 points.

c) Research experience in the project area – up to 6 points; in related areas – up to 3 points; other areas – up to 1 point.

The curriculum of each candidate will be evaluated in a 1‐20 points scale. Candidates with less than

14/20 points in the curricular evaluation will not be invited for the interview.

In the interview (40%) topics related with the work plan, experience and the candidate’s CV will be

discussed with the invited candidates.

If none of the candidates achieves a minimum final score of 15 points, the scholarship will not be awarded.
