Reference number: V 2025-2733

Placement: Department of Clinical Sciences, Malmö, Division of Perinatal and Cardiovascular Epidemiology

The role of pregnancy complications in coronary artery disease development

In the Perinatal and Cardiovascular Epidemiology (PACE) research group we work cross-disciplinary to improve our understanding of pregnancy complications, particularly preeclampsia, and cardiovascular disease. The research group is led by Simon Timpka (Associate Professor in Clinical Epidemiology) and consists of >10 members, including a full-time senior PhD statistician and both clinical and full-time postdocs. Our projects typically leverage large sets of either registry-based, biomarker, genetic and/or imaging data. Our offices are located at the Clinical Research Center (CRC) in Malmö, next door to the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Skåne University Hospital.

This project aims to investigate how a history of certain pregnancy complications leads to coronary artery disease development in women.

Women with certain pregnancy complications such as preeclampsia develop hypertension and coronary artery disease at an earlier age compared to women not affected by these complications. However, the etiology behind this process is unclear.

The scholarship recipient will under supervision gain training and experience in:

ㆍHandling and analyzing large datasets of genetic and coronary imaging data.

ㆍApply relevant statistical techniques to analyze registry-ascertained health outcomes in women

ㆍExecute statistical analyses relevant to genome-wide association studies (GWAS)

ㆍCollaborating on research projects with international experts.

This position offers an opportunity of hands-on training to further learn relevant statistical methods and how to handle large sets of clinical and imaging data, as well as bioinformatics training on genetic data.

Duration: 24 months

Stipend: 394,800 SEK per year (non-taxable in Sweden)
