Space missions such as NASA's Artemis and ESA's
ExoMars are pushing the limits of materials science, exposing structures to
extreme space environments, such as high and cryogenic temperatures,
rapid thermal cycling, radiation and particulate abrasion, causing thermal
fatigue, ageing, cracking and wear that threaten long-term integrity. Mission
success requires tools to simulate these interacting modes of degradation.
