Tallinn University announces a competition for the position of Postdoctoral Researcher in to the project “Memory and Environment: The Intersection of Fast and Slow Violence in Transnational European Literatures”, that is funded by the Estonian Research Council and is being carried out at the School of Humanities, Tallinn University at 2025-2029, under the leadership of Prof. Eneken Laanes.

Bringing together scholars of memory studies, environmental humanities and ecocriticism, the project examines how contemporary transnational literature represents the environmental impact of historical violence of colonialism and wars.

The project is seeking one Postdoctoral Researcher through an open international competition, with a research focus on the environmental impact of colonialism in one or more transnational postcolonial literatures. Comparative projects that encompass literatures in several languages and/or from different geographical areas are given priority. Theoretically inclined projects that explore different colonialisms such as European and Soviet colonialism are also welcome.

The postdoctoral researcher will join a team of five senior researchers and three doctoral researchers at the interdisciplinary and international School of Humanities. The project funding allows for international research trips and conference attendance and the researchers are given support for publishing in international peer-reviewed journals. They are expected to conduct their own research on a topic closely related to the project, write and publish academic papers, as well as assist in organizing project-related academic and public outreach activities.
