The collective research activity at the HSL Faculty includes networks and research groups, which are central to achieving the strategic goals of the faculty and its units in research and innovation. These serve as important arenas for fostering academic and social environments and promote professional development for researchers, as well as master’s and doctoral candidates. Networks and research groups aim to strengthen internal research collaboration within the faculty, both within and across disciplines. They also contribute to the development of research-intensive environments and play a key role in promoting societal value creation and innovation.

The project/position's field of research

The position as a postdoctoral fellow in topics related to Kven culture, history, language and/or society is part of UiT's strategic commitment to strengthen research on Kven topics and contribute to a capacity boost in this field. Kven culture and language constitute a central part of the multicultural heritage in Northern Norway. The postdoctoral position will be linked to one of the faculty's departments/centers, depending on the project's approach and the candidate's academic background.

The position is part of a dynamic research environment at UiT, with the opportunity for collaboration across disciplines and institutions, both nationally and internationally. The candidate is expected to contribute actively to the development of the research environment related to Kven topics at UiT and to strengthen UiT's position in Kven research. Emphasis is placed on the applicant's research being in dialogue with relevant Kven actors to ensure that the research is anchored in and relevant to Kven communities.

In connection with the development of an individual career plan, teaching tasks can be arranged.

Scientific findings are expected to be published in recognized scientific journals/publishers and presented at national and international conferences. The candidate will also disseminate knowledge about Kven topics to a wider audience and contribute to the development of teaching and supervision on Kven topics at UiT.

The applicant defines his/her own research project related to Kven culture, history, language or society and must submit a project description as part of the application. The project will strengthen and/or expand existing research on Kven culture or language at the faculty. We are open to different thematic approaches, and the applicant must describe what opportunities for interdisciplinary approaches the project may have. The project description must include a progress plan and should be a maximum of ten pages, including references.
