In accordance with the collective agreement for university employees, the Linz Institute for Transformative Change at the Johannes Kepler University Linz welcomes applications by women holding a Doctorate/Ph.D. degree to fill four tenure-track positions in “Transformative Change”.
In accordance with the collective agreement for university employees and the Austrian Universities Act (UG), the Linz Institute for Transformative Change is accepting applications by female candidates holding a Doctorate/PhD degree to fill four six-year, tenure-track positions.
In keeping with university policies to promote the advancement of women (the JKU’s Plan for the Advancement of Women), the positions are to be filled solely by a female scholar.
The positions are open to highly qualified junior female scholars holding a doctorate/Ph.D. degree and includes an option to sign a qualification agreement in which - following a positive decision – eventually secure a permanent position as Associate Professor (§ 99 para. 5 and 6 Austrian Universities Act).
The successful candidate is expected to focus on transformative change in both the past and present, meaning the conditions, processes, impacts, and formation thereof, taking the complexity of social, political, cultural, ecological, economic, legal, technical, and scientific dimensions of transformation into account and to the fullest extent possible.
The successful candidate’s research perspective should focus on transformative change stemming from/related to core disciplines in the areas of law, social sciences, business, or engineering and life sciences. As the successful candidate is also expected to forge connections between one or more related disciplines, key criteria for the position includes possessing both a strong social skill set and experience in creating interdisciplinary partnerships.
While “Transformative Change” is a central focus area in terms of the subject matter, within the general thematic scope, the research topic is open. Applicants should ideally conduct research on key transformative topics that the JKU currently focuses on: Digital transformation and a digital society, socio-ecological transformation, sustainability and sustainable technologies, complexity research, demographic transformation, inclusion, gender relations, migration, and diversity. We also welcome research profiles that address interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary research in terms of its contribution to social change (such as open innovation in science).
The successful candidate should hold a post-doctoral/Ph.D. degree and demonstrate an outstanding record of scholarly publications as well as prior lecturing/teaching experience. The applicant is expected to demonstrate professional international experience as well as fluent language proficiency in English.

In accordance with the collective agreement, the minimum gross annual salary is EUR 69,060.60. After successfully meeting the requirements as outlined in the qualification agreement - and under the collective agreement - the minimum salary increases to EUR 81,314.80 per year (last update: 2025). A higher remuneration is subject to negotiation.
