The Department of Physiology at the Institute of Neuroscience and Physiology hereby announces a one-year scholarship at postdoctoral level in immunometabolism, with the possibility of a one-year extension. The research will focus on diabetes-associated fibrosis.

Plan for scientific research

The research aim is to expand on our findings (Vujicic M et al, PNAS 2024) with the goal to uncover macrophage-driven molecular mechanisms linking diabetes to cardiac fibrosis, identify biomarkers predicting fibrotic progression, and generate preclinical data supporting new antifibrotic therapies. The postdoctoral fellow will primarily use mouse models and combine metabolic, cardiac, and renal functional assessments with histology, flow cytometry, single-cell RNA sequencing, and gene manipulation to identify and validate profibrotic pathways. In addition to this main project, the postdoctoral fellow will participate in ongoing projects in the lab as well as to supervision of research students. The postdoctoral fellow will gain expertise in metabolism, macrophage biology, and fibrosis mechanisms, advanced analytical methods, along with skills in data integration, design, writing, interdisciplinary collaboration, as well as leadership and mentorship competencies.
