The Faculty of Information Technology at the Czech Technical University in Prague (FIT CTU) is seeking a highly motivated Researcher to join the Data Science Laboratory within the Department of Applied Mathematics. This is a full-time, 2-year position focused on both fundamental and applied research in the rapidly developing field of GEOAI (Geospatial Artificial Intelligence).

You will contribute primarily to two Horizon Europe projects:

• • PoliRuralPlus – advancing participatory policy making with geospatial intelligence
• • FOCAL – developing next-generation geospatial analytics and decision-support tools

Key Responsibilities

• • Conduct high-quality research in GEOAI, combining geospatial data processing, machine learning, and artificial intelligence
  
  
• • Publish results in top-tier conferences and journals (e.g., AI, machine learning, GIS, data mining, remote sensing)
  
  
• • Collaborate with an international consortium of academic and industry partners
  
  
• • Supervise and mentor talented students and contribute to the lab’s research culture
  
  
• • Participate in European research project activities, deliverables, and workshops
  
  
• • Work on-site in the laboratory at least 3 days per week (no fully remote option)
  
  

Required Qualifications

• • PhD (or near completion) in computer science, applied mathematics, geoinformatics, or a related field
  
  
• • Proven publication track record in reputable international venues
  
  
• • Strong background in machine learning, spatial data analytics, or related areas
  
  
• • Ability to work independently as well as in a collaborative research environment
  
  
• • Excellent communication skills in English
  
  

Beneficial Skills / Experience

• • Prior involvement in Horizon Europe or similar international research projects
  
  
• • Experience with geospatial data (Earth observation, remote sensing, GIS platforms)
  
  
• • Programming skills (Python, ML frameworks, geospatial toolkits)
  
  
• • Interest in interdisciplinary collaboration
