Gdańsk Medical University is seeking a candidate for the position of

Assistant - Assistant Professor (f/m)
with the role of Postdoctoral Researcher
in the Department of Translational Oncology

The selected candidate will participate in the implementation of a research project funded by the National Science Centre (NCN) under the OPUS 29 call, project no. 2025/57/B/NZ3/0184, entitled “Molecular pathways involved in nuclear membrane stress adaptation and its role in breast and prostate cancer”, led by Dr. Paulina Nastały.

LAB DESCRIPTION

In my research, I focus on mechano-oncology, a field that explores how physical and mechanical forces acting on cells influence cancer development and progression. My work aims to better understand how cancer cells respond to stress during disease progression and how these responses contribute to invasion, metastasis, and therapy resistance.

A central aspect of my research is the cell nucleus, which protects genetic information and plays a key role in maintaining cellular integrity. In cancer, structural changes in and around the nucleus can make cells more vulnerable to stress, while also enabling them to adapt and spread more efficiently. I am particularly interested in how cancer cells cope with challenging conditions such as mechanical stress, low oxygen, and other environmental pressures.

By combining concepts from cell biology, biophysics, and cancer research, my work seeks to uncover general principles that govern how cells adapt to stressful environments. Ultimately, my goal is to contribute to a deeper understanding of cancer progression and to support the development of improved diagnostic tools and therapeutic strategies, with a focus on precision and patient-oriented approaches.
