Person for the position of Assistant Professor
Unit: Department of Surface and Nanostructure Physics, Institute of Physics, Faculty of Physics, Mathematics and Computer Science, Maria Curie-Skłodowska University

Criteria:

• • a doctoral degree in the field of physical sciences or related sciences
• • experience in acquiring and managing or implementing research projects
• • outstanding scientific achievements
• • documented scientific achievements in the field of surface physics and/or 2D materials, confirmed by publications in international journals with a high (>4) impact factor
• • experience in laboratory work: (i) preferred experience in working with a LEEM low-energy electron microscope including PEEM, LEED, μLEED, (ii) experience in ARPES and/or XPS spectroscopy is welcome
• • experience in the analysis of data obtained by microscopy and electron spectroscopy techniques
• • experience in deposition of ultrathin films using the molecular beam epitaxy (MBE) method
• • experience in ultra-high vacuum techniques and technologies
• • preferred experience in the construction of element/compound pairs sources for the MBE technique
• • proficiency in programming using Visual Basic, Python
• • ability to use data analysis software: e.g. Matlab, ImageJ, Igor-pro, WSxM and for writing publications Latex
• • proficiency in English
• • motivation to conduct scientific research and the ability to work in a team
• • meeting the requirements of the Law on Higher Education and Science (Article 113) and the Statute of the Maria Curie-Skłodowska University (§ 79)

Employment will take place in accordance with the Regulations for the allocation of funds for the implementation of tasks financed by the National Science Centre in the field of research projects.

The candidate must meet the conditions set by the National Science Centre for persons employed in a post-doc position. A person applying for the competition must meet the following conditions:

• • obtained a doctoral degree in the year of employment in the project or in the period of 12 years prior to January 1 of the year of employment in the project. This period may be extended by the duration of stay in this period for long-term (over 90 days) documented sickness benefits or rehabilitation benefits in connection with incapacity for work. In addition, this period may be extended by the number of months of leave related to the care and upbringing of children granted on the terms set out in the Labour Code, and in the case of women – by 18 months for each child born or adopted, if such a method of indicating breaks in a scientific career is more favourable

  • - has obtained a doctoral degree in an entity other than the entity in which the position is planned to be employed, or has completed at least a 10-month, continuous and documented postdoctoral internship in an entity other than the entity implementing the project and in a country other than the country in which the doctoral degree was obtained
  • - during the period of receiving remuneration for employment in this position, will not receive any other remuneration from funds granted as direct costs from research projects funded under NCN calls
  • - during the period of receiving remuneration for employment in this position, he/she will not receive remuneration from another employer on the basis of an employment contract, including an employer with a registered office outside Polish
  • - during the period of receiving remuneration for employment in this position, will not receive pension benefits from the social security system

  • - will be employed for a period of not less than 6 months
