International Call for the Recruitment of one Junior Researcher on a fixed-term contract at IPO Porto

The Board of Directors of the Portuguese Oncology Institute of Porto Francisco Gentil, EPE (IPO Porto) opens a call for hiring one Junior Researcher for research management and activities, in accordance with the applicable Regulations, under an unfixed-term contract for period of up to 45 months or until the end of the project, with funding under the scope of Pluriannual Funding of the Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT) for the IPO Porto Research Center (R&D Unit 00776) with reference (UID/00776/2025), to work at the IPO Porto Research Center.


1.Profile of the candidate:

Any national, foreign or stateless candidate(s) who holds the following requirements can apply:


Mandatory:

  • PhD in the field of Oncobiology or similar fields;
  • Publications in international peer-reviewed journals in the Oncology field;
  • Documented experience in collaboration in event organization for scientific dissemination;
  • Document involvement in scientific outreach activities;
  • Training in project management and funding procurement;
  • Experience with reference management software and platforms such as EndNote, Scopus, and Web of Science;
  • Experience with software for data management and analysis, such as Excel, R, and SPSS;
  • Experience in training/lecturing for undergraduate students and community outreach;
  • English proficiency (oral and written).


Preferencial:

  • Publications as first-author in international peer-reviewed journals in the Oncology field;
  • Involvement in the organization and participation in IPO Porto Research Center activities;
  • Motivation to work in an interactive and collaborative environment;
  • Organized, able to prioritize and accomplish deadlines;
  • Driven to fulfill the goals of the IPO Porto Research Center.

Note: If the master's degree or doctor's degree, as applicable, were awarded by a foreign higher education institution, the degree must comply with the provisions of Decree-Law no. 66/2018, of August 18, and all the formalities established there until the application deadline.


2.Work plan

The work plan for this grant will include the following tasks:

  • Participating in research activities, aligned with the major research lines of IPO Porto Research Center;
  • Collaborate in the drafting of scientific proposals for funding;
  • Participate in the dissemination of scientific results through the drafting of reports, scientific articles, and presentations at meetings and conferences;
  • Collaborate in the organization of IPO Porto Research Center’s outreach activities;
  • Drafting the IPO Porto Research Center’s technical and scientific reports;
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of the internal scientific structure;
  • Integration of new researchers and research trainees.


3.Regulation:

  • Portuguese Labor Law, approved by Law No. 7/2009, of February 12
  • Decree-Law no. 57/2016, on August 29th, as amended and republished by Law no. 57/2017, on July 19th which regulates the Hiring of Doctorates aimed at stimulating Scientific and Technological Employment in all areas of knowledge (RJEC)


4. Jury Members:

Prof. Carmen Jerónimo, PhD (president); Prof. Mário Dinis Ribeiro, MD, PhD (member); Prof. Rui Henrique, MD, PhD (member).

1st substitute: Prof. Lúcio Lara Santos, MD, PhD and Prof. Rui Medeiros, PhD (2nd substitute).


5. Start date and place of work:

The contract is expected to start on May 1st, and it is expected to end on December 31st of 2029 or at the end of the project. The activities will be developed mainly at IPO Porto.


6. Monthly remuneration:

The gross monthly remuneration is 2 408.11 €, corresponding to the 1st tier of the initial salary level on an exclusive basis, in accordance with the provisions of articles 1 and 2 of Regulatory Decree no. 11-A/2017, of December 29th.


7. Application process:

The call is open between 04/03/2026, and 18/03/2026. Applications and the required supporting documents (indicated below) must be sent by e-mail (to: recrutamento@ipoporto.min-saude.pt), in PDF format, indicating the reference of the position CI.005/2026 [Reference UID/00776/2025]:

  • Motivation letter (in English),
  • Curriculum Vitae (should include information that allows the assessment of general and preferred requirements)

  • Other documents that applicant may consider to be relevant to prove the scientific course.
  • Application form (Annex I) and Informed consent (Annex II).


Note: The non-compliance with these requirements will determine immediate rejection of the application.

Documents must be attached directly to the application email without links to external platforms/drives. All documents should be saved in Portable Document Format (.pdf) to facilitate their reading. The files must be named with the applicant’s first and last name and must not exceed 25 MB altogether. These can be compressed in .zip format.


8. Evaluation criteria:

The admitted applications will be evaluated by assessing the candidates' academic or professional qualifications, their professional background, the relevance of professional experience and academic training, and the type of functions performed in accordance with the profile described above. In accordance with the Article 5 RJEC the admitted candidates will be evaluated considering the curricular evaluation based on the merit of the candidate's Scientific and Curricular Path in accordance with Annex III, considering the last five years.

After the evaluation of all admitted applications, the jury will write a meeting minute describing the whole process of recruitment, evaluation, and selection, including an ordered list of approved candidates and the final decision of the jury. The final decision of the jury shall be validated by the Board of Directors of IPO Porto, which is also responsible for deciding on hiring.


9. Form of advertising / notification of results

The recruitment results will be announced by email to the email address indicated by the candidates in their Curricula Vitae/Motivation Letter and will be published at https://ipoporto.pt/nos-ipo/emprego-e-carreira/.


10. Preliminary hearing and deadline for final decision:

Pursuant to article 121 of the Administrative Procedure Code (CPA in Portuguese), after notified, all applicants who have an unfavourable provisional decision may use their right to dispute it during the preliminary hearing phase, which takes place within ten working days. Panel’s final decisions are pronounced within a period of 90 days, from application deadline.
