We are announcing a full-time position as a
Scientist and bioinformatic manager (m/f/d)
The position is offered initially for 2 years with the potential to be made
permanent.

The Research Center Borstel (RCB) is an internationally operating Lung Center within the Leibniz Association, financed by the
Federal Government and the State of Schleswig-Holstein. We operate extensive laboratory and research infrastructures.
Academically, we are closely linked with neighboring universities (Lübeck, Kiel) and clinically with the University Hospital Schleswig-
Holstein. Our goal is to improve existing methods for the detection, prevention and treatment of lung diseases and to develop
new, innovative therapeutic approaches.

YOUR TASKS
• Oversee the bioinformatic-based components of our scientific projects.
• Contribute significantly to writing scientific manuscripts and grant proposals.
• Perform independent research, including study design, data interpretation, and development of novel methods.
• Supervise students, postdoctoral researchers, and technical staff and provide mentorship to group members
• Assist the group’s bioinformatic technician and institute’s IT team in managing pipelines, software environments, and
computing infrastructure.
• Help build and sustain an ambitious research environment

YOUR QUALIFICATIONS
• A PhD in bioinformatics or microbiology with a strong bioinformatic component. Applicants in the final stages of obtaining
their degree are welcome to apply
• Track record of publications in high quality scientific journals
• Expertise in genome and RNAseq analysis, including working with Illumina, Nanopore, PacBio, and single cell sequence data.
Prior experience with fungal genomics and or pangenome graphs, specifically, is highly desirable.
• Experience managing bioinformatic tools, scripts, and pipelines with Slurm, Linux, Bash, Python, R, Git, Conda, and Docker.
• Strong understanding of statistics in the context of large biological datasets
• Strong project planning skills, including managing collaborations with multiple partners.
• Fluency in both English, both written and spoken.
