Postdoctoral researcher (m/f/d)
The position is offered initially for 2 years with the potential to be extended up to 5 years.

The Research Center Borstel (RCB) is an internationally operating Lung Center within the Leibniz Association, financed by the
Federal Government and the State of Schleswig-Holstein. We operate extensive laboratory and research infrastructures.
Academically, we are closely linked with neighboring universities (Lübeck, Kiel) and clinically with the University Hospital Schleswig-
Holstein. Position will be based in the group of Prof. Amelia E. Barber. More information about their research activities at

Adaptation to changing pH and salinity is essential for fungal pathogens to cause disease and is increasingly important in the
environment due to climate change and human activity. In a Wellcome Trust-funded collaboration with researchers at the
University of Exeter, the MRC Laboratory for Molecular Biology, and the University of Dundee, we will test whether these
environmental changes prime opportunistic fungi for infectious growth, reducing barriers to infectivity.

YOUR TASKS
• Work independently to lead the planned research and assist in developing new research ideas
• Publish your research results in high quality scientific journals.
• Attend and present your work at scientific meetings.
• Participate in (virtual) monthly project meetings with other grant partners.

YOUR QUALIFICATIONS
• PhD in bioinformatics, microbiology or genetics. Applicants in the final stages of their degree are welcome to apply.
• Knowledge of Linux, Bash, and a scripting language (R and/or Python).
• Prior experience with eukaryotic genomes, phylogenomics, and/or microbial community analyses (amplicon or
metagenome).
• Knowledge of statistics in the context of large biological datasets.
• Track record of scientific publications in high quality, peer-reviewed journals.
• You have a sense of responsibility, attention to detail, and the ability to work in a team.
• Fluency in English, both written and spoken.
• A class B driver’s license or willingness to obtain is not required but may be advantageous for accessing sampling sites.
