Transparent ferroelectric oxides with strong second-order nonlinearity are essential platforms
for electro-optical and nonlinear photonics. The ELLIPTIC focuses on Lithium Tantalate-on-
Insulator (LTOI) technology, a platform offering compatibility with large-scale
microelectronic manufacturing. Besides integrated photonic circuits, one goal of the project is
the design and demonstration of functional optical metasurfaces for free space applications.
Exploiting LTOI’s high second-order nonlinearity and strong Pockels effect, we target
efficient nonlinear frequency generation and tunable flat optics with dynamic wavefront
control. Additionally, phonon-polariton resonances at THz frequencies enable extreme light
confinement and ultra-sharp responses. The post-doctoral researcher will be responsible the
analysis and design of lithium-tantalate-based metasurfaces for nonlinear applications and
electro-optic modulation.

PhD in Electrical Engineering or Physics or Materials Science.
Experience on theoretical methods and numerical simulations for metasurfaces and nonlinear
photonic components. Excellent communication skills and ability to work effectively
independently and in a collaborative research environment. Track record of scientific
productivity demonstrated by publications and presentations. Fluency in English (verbal and
written).
