A call is open for the allocation of 1 (one) research fellowship for PhD within the Research Project entitled EcoFoams: Scalable Production of High-Performance and Eco-Friendly Insulation Foams, funded by Regional Programme for the Centre – Centro2030, Competition Notice n.º MPr-2023-8, taking place at the ICI - Instituto Coordenador da Investigação (Research Coordinating Institute), of the University of Beira Interior, under the following conditions:

Research Field: 

Mechanical Engineering, Materials Engineering and related fields

Objectives: 

The objective of this project is to develop innovative, eco-friendly polyurethane-alternative foams using sustainable materials and advanced manufacturing technologies. It aims to enhance key properties such as thermal insulation, acoustic performance, fire retardancy, and self-extinguishing behaviour, enabling their application as durable and scalable replacements for conventional PU foams in construction. 

Work plan: 

The work plan for the research grant was designed to support the project's multidisciplinary and collaborative experimental research activities, namely:

i) Literature review, summary of the state-of-the-art;

ii) Experimental formulation of recipes;

iii) Manufacture of samples and their characterisation;

iv) Manufacture of prototypes and their validation;

v) Development of awareness-raising activities for the use of eco-friendly foams;

vi) Dissemination of results.

Research Fellowship Holder Statute, approved by Law No. 40/2004, of 18 August, in its current wording (amended by Decree-Law No. 123/2019, of 28 August); Regulation for Research Studentships and Fellowships of the Foundation for Science and Technology (Regulation No. 950/2019) published in the Diário da República, 2nd series, No. 241, 16 December 2019; Regulation for Research Fellowships of the University of Beira Interior - RBIUBI (Regulation No. 100/2020) published in the Diário da República, 2nd series, n.º 27, 7 February 2020.

Work location: 

The work will be developed at ICI - Instituto Coordenador da Investigação (Research Coordinating Institute), of the University of Beira Interior, under the scientific supervision of Doctor Veera Bhadraiah Sadhu, email: [email protected]. at University of Beira Interior.

Fellowship duration and conditions:

The fellowship is opened for 12 months, starting on September. The activity is in regime of exclusive dedication in accordance with the RBIUBI. The fellowship may be renewed for periods up to 12 months, not exceeding the end of the project.

. Certificate of completion of the previous degree;

. Other documents considered relevant; 

. Declaration of honour from the candidate stating, for the type of scholarship BIPD, that he/she meets the conditions for being award the fellowship according to Article 7 of the RBIUBI.

Publication/notification of results: 

The partial and final results of the evaluation process will be published in a sorted list, by the final classification obtained, and posted in a visible and public place of the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Beira Interior. The candidate(s) will be notified of the decision by e-mail. Invitations to the face-to-face interview will be sent to candidates by email at least 48 hours in advance.
