Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz (JGU) is one of the largest universities in Germany. English Language Education (Fachdidaktik Englisch) is based in the Department of English and Linguistics within Faculty 05 and is responsible for the English Language Education component of the B.Ed. and M.Ed. teacher education programmes. It brings together research-informed teacher education, school-based practice, and national and international projects in curriculum development, teacher professional development, and knowledge exchange. Its main areas of expertise include Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL), Pluriliteracies, Deeper Learning, Global Citizenship Education, and the use of digital media and artificial intelligence in foreign language teaching.

Your tasks:

• • teach English Language Education courses in the B.Ed. and M.Ed. teacher education programmes, with a current teaching load of 16 contact hours per week during the semester;
• • independently teach across the full range of English Language Education courses at Bachelor’s and Master’s level, with the exception of lectures;
• • teach introductory and advanced courses in areas including the planning, delivery, and reflection of English lessons; the teaching of language, literature, culture, and media; competence-oriented teaching, task and materials design; diagnosis, assessment, and feedback; multilingualism, diversity, and inclusion; and the use of digital media and artificial intelligence in foreign language teaching;
• • set and assess the examinations and assignments required in the relevant modules, and supervise and assess Bachelor’s and Master’s theses;
• • contribute to university committees, particularly the Committee for Teaching and Learning, and to the continued development of English Language Education and the associated teacher education programmes;
• • where appropriate, contribute to research, development, and knowledge-exchange projects, as well as to national and international activities in teacher education.

All courses are taught in English.
