The Fleischer Lab from the Institute of Organic Chemistry, University of Tübingen, invites applications for the position of PhD student/doctoral candidate (m/f/x; 100 %, salary plus allowances package according to the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) – Doctoral Networks rules) for the duration of three years, starting in October 2025. Selection is based on suitability, qualification and professional performance. Disabled persons will be preferred in case of equal qualification. The University seeks to raise the number of women in research and teaching and therefore encourages qualified women academics to apply for these positions.

The Fleischer research group focuses on the development of new catalytic transformations for organic synthesis. General goals of our investigations are innovation, efficiency and sustainability. We are looking for a PhD student to work within the framework of the EU doctoral network CATALOOP (https://www.tu-chemnitz.de/cataloop/index.html). The project in our group focuses on the development of new chiral Ni-based catalysts for asymmetric coupling reactions.

The CATALOOP network aims at the development of powerful and readily applicable workflows for data-driven development of stereoselective catalysis. As a main training goal we want to educate researchers in comprehensive data-driven experimental approaches for realizing challenging asymmetric catalytic methods.

This network brings together academic research groups with expertise in experimental catalyst development with theoretical groups skilled in computational and data-driven chemistry in order to develop new catalytic asymmetric reactions. World-leading industrial partners with a wide range of interests will provide advice on which approaches may have the most impact on industry and will host the students in secondments. Students will be assigned experimental and theoretical supervisors and be trained to a minimum level of proficiency in both aspects. This envisaged combination of research and training will develop researchers with a unique skill set who are well suited to developing new enantioselective catalytic processes that are in high demand in academia and industry. The CATALOOP project offers the possibility to pursue the PhD within the Network at different universities/research centres/industrial companies from 7 European countries (Israel, Germany, Ireland, Switzerland, the Netherlands, Spain, England) Background information on all offered PhD positions is available on the web (link).

CATALOOP has received funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2022 research and innovation programme under the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Action Doctoral Networks (HORIZON-MSCA-2022-DN-01) scheme, grant agreement number: 101168623

Interested applicants should have a strong background in organic chemistry and homogeneous catalysis, and experience with organometallic chemistry and experimental methods under inert conditions. They should be interested in data-based approach towards catalyst development. They must hold, or are soon to complete, an outstanding Master (or equivalent) degree in chemistry. Excellent communication, presentation and writing skills in English and very good knowledge of organic chemistry are expected. The ability to work safely, independently and in a team environment is essential.

Please note that for applications in the Marie-Sklodowska-Curie program funded by the European Commission there is a strict mobility regulation. In general, you must not have resided in Germany for longer than 12 months prior to the start of the network program in October 2025.

If you are interested in this position, please send your application with the usual documentation (letter of motivation, curriculum vitae, copies of certificates, publication list, one or more letters of recommendation) in electronic form (one pdf-file only) to: ivana.fleischer@uni-tuebingen.de. The term CATALOOP should be mentioned in the application. The initial deadline is Mai 15, 2025.
