We are looking for scientists with interest in one or more of the following topics:

  • Functional (epi)genomics and chromatin biology
  • Neuro-/stem cell biology
  • Transposable and repetitive genetic elements
  • Human brain development and/or degeneration

The position

As a postdoc in the Lab of Epigenetics and Chromatin Dynamics, you would help us to understand the control and influence of repetitive genetic elements – so-called ‘genomic dark matter’ – in human brain development and degeneration. We are entering a new genomic era enabling mechanistic studies of repeats and their biological functions. This area has been limited by a lack of technologies to resolve repetitive sequences – but such technologies (long-read sequencing, targeted epigenomics and an ever-developing CRISPR toolbox) are starting to enable such studies. Those who are interested in gaining experience in wet or dry lab (or a combination thereof) are equally welcome to get in touch. We also encourage scientists from diverse or underrepresented backgrounds to apply.

The lab and environment

The team is led by Dr Christopher Douse, and is composed of two PhD students, two postdocs, two MS students and one lab manager. We are supported by outstanding core facilities at Lund Stem Cell Center, and embedded in a dynamic and friendly environment for neuro- and stem cell biology. The lab is committed to an inclusive culture based on mutual respect, diversity of background and open sharing of data and ideas. We are excited to grow the team with these core principles front of mind. Through association with the Stem Cell Center, there are excellent opportunities for scientific and professional development. Sweden is a fantastic place for early career researchers, with a variety of grants aimed at postdocs acquiring their own research funding, access to state-funded childcare and a commitment (upheld by the lab) to good work-life balance.

Apply by Friday May 9th 2025 at 23:59 CET. Contact Chris (christopher.douse[at]med.lu.se) for more information or to submit an application. An application consists of a cover letter (around 1 page) summarizing your expertise and interests, a CV, and contact details for 2-3 references. Due to local rules, you should not have obtained your PhD before June 2022. Estimated start date: September 2025. If in doubt get in touch!
