Position Summary

The School of the Human Environment and School of Biological, Earth and Environmental Sciences, University College Cork seek a highly motivated and dynamic Post-Doctoral Researcher to join the interdisciplinary Living Coasts project. Open to EU and non-EU applicants, this Research Ireland-funded project focuses on how the installation of “Living Seawalls” in Cork can promote urban coastlines as “more-than-human places” and foster improved ecological awareness and engagement surrounding ongoing and future multispecies relations at the coasts.

The successful candidate will be physically based at University College Cork (Ireland) within the Department of Geography and with an option to be associated with the Radical Humanities Laboratory. They will be proficient in community-engaged qualitative research and have an understanding of coastal and environmental monitoring to work in-depth on the ecology, values, and futures of sustainable coastal redevelopment.

They will also be excellent communicators with experience managing projects. Additional experience and knowledge in any of the following areas would be highly valued: biodiversity monitoring, qualitative fieldwork, community engagement tracking, workshop coordination, social action research, “collaborative speculation” or other creativity-based methods. The appointee will work directly with PI’s at UCC and will be expected to engage with a range of national and international external stakeholder organizations.
