We invite applications for a Postdoctoral Research Fellow to develop and apply genome-scale metabolic models (GEMs) to investigate the ecological and biogeochemical roles of plankton in the global ocean.


This project integrates systems biology, oceanography, and computational modeling to unravel how microbial metabolic networks drive carbon cycling, nutrient fluxes, and ecosystem resilience in a changing climate.


The fellow will leverage cutting-edge tools (e.g., COBRA, MEMOTE, DRUM) to: Construct and validate GEMs for key phytoplankton/zooplankton taxa using omics data (metagenomics, transcriptomics, metabolomics). Simulate metabolic interactions in plankton communities (e.g., diatom-diazotroph associations) under varying environmental conditions (e.g., iron limitation, ocean acidification). Couple GEMs with oceanographic models to predict biogeochemical impacts (e.g., carbon export, nitrogen fixation) at regional-to-global scales
