Requirements

The selection procedure is open for all individuals, who meet the requirements set out in Articles 113 and 116.2.3) of the Act of 20 July 2018 – Law on Higher Education and Science, and who meet the following eligibility criteria according to § 165 of the Statute of the Jagiellonian University: 

  • holding at least a doctoral degree;
  • having relevant scientific achievements;
  • taking active part in scientific life.


Additional requirements and expectations

We are looking for a post-doc in HIV-1 virology with experience in molecular biology and virology

A molecular biologist/virologist should have hands-on experience with fundamental biochemical techniques (including SDS-PAGE, Western blot, RT-qPCR, IP), cell culture skills, and expertise in cell analysis methods such as FACS analysis, fluorescence/confocal microscopy, and experience in working with infectious material.

Additional requirements:

  • A PhD in a relevant field (e.g., molecular biology, biotechnology, microbiology)
  • Experience working with biosafety level 2 and 3 infectious material
  • Proficiency in English sufficient for reading and understanding scientific literature
  • At least one first-author publication in a peer-reviewed journal (if a publication is delayed due to a long review process or patent application, please specify this in the application)
  • Motivation, independence, and a willingness to develop professionally
  • Ability to collaborate and foster a trustworthy team environment
  • Strong presentation skills for research findings
  • Compliance with formal requirements outlined in the: Regulations on awarding funding for research tasks funded by the National Science Centre as regards research projects


Specific Requirements

Project Title

Weave Unisono, NCN, “Towards a functional cure of HIV infection.”, PSP: K/NCN/000506.


Project description

The research group is based at the Malopolska Centre of Biotechnology, in the lively and international city of Krakow, Poland.

The aim of our research is to evaluate a novel “block-and-shock” approach aimed at eliminating latent HIV-1. Specifically, the person in this position will develop various protocols for reactivating HIV-1 from latency (using different classes of latency-reversing agents, or LRAs, in combination with viral integrase inhibitors). Additionally, the post-doc will work to elucidate the molecular mechanisms involved in reactivation within the “block-and-shock” strategy using in vitro, ex vivo, and primary cell models of latent HIV-1 infection.


Scope of duties 

According to the Work Regulations of the Jagiellonian University Annex 1 to the Work Regulations of the Jagiellonian University – Model scopes of responsibilities and duties of academic teachers.

 

The successful candidate’s daily tasks will include:

  • Planning and conducting experimental work and documenting it in the electronic lab book
  • Close collaboration with a PhD student.
  • Presenting results internally and at conferences, writing publications.
  • Staying up to date with relevant papers.
  • Participation in organizing laboratory work.

The course of the selection procedure

The first stage of the selection procedure is the formal assessment of the submitted documents. Applications which meet all formal requirements are the subject of substantive assessment, during which an interview with the Candidate may be conducted (directly or via electronic communication channels), upon settling the date of the interview with the Candidate. The Candidate has the right to appeal against the negative assessment by the selection board within 7 days of receiving the information about the results of the assessment.
